B. Jordan

SILVER LAKE - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of B. Howard Jordan at the age of 97.

Howard was born on a farm at Gravel Hill, TN on Feb 8,1921. He was the son of Grover and Dovie Jordan.

Moving to Akron with his brother, Elgie and sister, Madie, he graduated from West High School in 1939. While there he captained the All-City basketball team as a member of the West High Cowboys. Later he enlisted in the US Air Force and proudly served as a 2nd Lt. Bombardier on the B17 Flying Fortress flying 50 missions and receiving an honorable discharge. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1948. While continuing his education at the University of Akron for his law degree he married the love of his life Grace LaRue Stotler. They had 4 children, Kathleen Lavery (Robert) James, (Rhoda) Sally Flynn and John (Julie). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Jana, Jay, Bridget, Jordan, Lindsay, Laura, and Jett.

Howard retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as Manager of Pension and Group insurance with 36 years of service. He proudly represented both hourly and salary personnel as a member of the National Labor Relations Board during President Johnson's term where he fought for all good hard-working people. He enjoyed many rounds of golf including a hole-in-one which was the only time we saw him drunk. All who knew him enjoyed his friendship and he loved talking about the weather, doing crossword puzzles, and dining out twice a day with his wife and every Sunday with the family. His favorite place outside of Silver Lake was visiting Naples, FL where he died on February 13th.

The family will have a private burial at Oakwood Cemetery Monday at noon. He would want everyone to love life, be healthy and happy. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home and Crematory, 330-928-2147.
