Daniel Quillin

CUYAHOGA FALLS - Daniel B. Quillin, retired 9th District Court of Appeals Judge, passed away peacefully November 25, 2014 at his home in Cuyahoga Falls.
Born in Akron on March 30, 1930, he graduated from North High School in 1947. He earned his Bachelor Degree from the University of Akron where he lettered in track. He served in the United States Air Force for two years prior to attending Western Reserve Law School. After graduating in 1956, he worked as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio and in private practice with John Barrett until 1962. He was elected Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court Judge and served in that position until 1968 when he was appointed Summit County Common Pleas Judge. In 1980, he was appointed Judge of the 9th District Court of Appeals where he remained until his retirement in 2000.
Judge Quillin loved the law and always believed it a privilege and honor to serve the citizens of Summit, Medina, Wayne and Lorain Counties. Although recipient of multiple awards, recognitions and countless accolades during his 38 years on the bench, he remained humble and gracious throughout.
He loved golf! He was a long time member of Silver Lake Country Club where he could be found every Saturday and Sunday morning and Wednesday afternoon. Twice a year he would take a golf trip south with his friends to escape the winter weather.
As much as he loved the law (and golf), his #1 priority was his family. He married Ruth Adams in 1956 and she was always the apple of his eye until her passing in 2010. Although facing health issues himself, he never left her side during the final years of her courageous fight against Alzheimer's. The couple has three children who were raised in a loving and nurturing environment.
He was preceded in death by his parents (Dewey and Bernice), a sister (Jean), a brother (George) and his wife, Ruth. Survivors include his children: John, Patty and Ed; and, grandchildren: Carrie, Felipe, Nick, Stacy, Kendall and Kori.
Calling hours will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 28th at The Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front Street, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44221. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 29th at The Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1905 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44221. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association, 1815 West Market St., Akron, Ohio 44313. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home and Crematory, 330-928-2147.
