CUYAHOGA FALLS - Hattie L. Hawley, 101, passed away March 20, 2015 at Western Reserve Hospital after an unexpected illness with her family at her side.

Hattie Louise (Bennett) Hawley was born in Hudson on October 17, 1913, the seventh child of 14, born to Frank and Ida (Zimke) Bennett. She attended Hudson High School where she played on the 1929-1930 Summit County Championship girls basketball team. She married Arthur V. Hawley on April 17, 1930. They were happily married for 53 years until his death in May 1983. Together they had eight children; Arthur, Harold, Melvin, Juanita, Della June, Virgil (Tom), Virginia and James. Mrs. Hawley has resided in Cuyahoga Falls since 1964 and was a member of the Rock of Ages Community Church for more than 40 years where she frequently sang her favorite hymns. She loved flowers and always had a vegetable garden as well as flower beds. She liked to can fruits and vegetables and making delicious pies, jelly and sweet pickles for her family. There was always a pot of soup on the stove and a fresh pot of coffee.

Mayor Don Robart declared October 19, 2013 as "Hattie Hawley Day" in Cuyahoga Falls in honor of her 100th birthday.

She is survived by four children, Juanita Taylor, Folkston, GA, Della June (Wayne) Strong, Shreve, Virgil (Tom) Hawley, Folkston, GA and Virginia (Larry) Cross, Cuyahoga Falls; 32 grandchildren and countless great, great-great and even great-great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Hawley has one surviving sister, Florence Bittinger of Medina and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends may call from 6:00 TO 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 24 in the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St, Cuyahoga Falls where a Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 25. Interment Markillie Cemetery. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home and Crematory, 330-928-2147.
