Donald Oliver Mitchell, 81, passed away peacefully in his home on July 10, 2019 with his daughter Debbie and his dog Luca by his side.
Originally from California, Don graduated from Hayward High School and was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard. He lived in Virginia 6 years, eventually settling in Stow, OH where he spent the last 28 years.
Don never met a stranger. He was a social butterfly and knew many of his neighbors and community members well. A master conversationalist, he was known for sharing his life stories and he delivered jokes with a knowing smirk when you caught it. He worked for Picker Int. for 33 years. He loved race cars & racing and he had a special place in his heart for his '72 C-10 SWB Chevy Cheyenne "Harry". He also enjoyed California history, lighthouses, music, the Ohio Locks, old firetrucks, camping, and traveling. Don had a heart of gold and he will be dearly missed by all.
He was preceded by his wife Diana, brother Lowell, and parents Lowell & Evelyn. He is survived by his children John P. (Geannie), Bill E. (Lissette), Thomas J., Julene R. Mitchell-Beckmann, Dawn Ellen (Thomas) Durdella, and Debra Mitchell; Grandchildren Angelique, Ian, Ivy, Jessica, Gabriel, Natalie, Sean, Heidi, Abigail, Leah, and Laci, 3 great-grandchildren, and his dog Luca.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2019 from 2 pm until time of memorial service at 4 pm at Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH, with Chaplain Reginald Cureton officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home and Crematory, 330-928-2147.
