Julie Wherry

Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio- Julie Ann (Snyder) Wherry, 74, died peacefully on February 18, 2018 surrounded by her three boys and other loved ones at her bedside after a short illness.

Julie was born on July 25, 1943 to Wayne and Helen (Fellenbaum) Snyder in Akron, Ohio and was raised with her brother Wayne "Sonny" Snyder Jr. (Vickie) in Cuyahoga Falls. In childhood, she was confirmed at Bethany United Church of Christ, a few blocks from where she grew up and later graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School as a proud member of the Class of 1961 where she was very active in numerous student organizations and especially loved her time as a majorette.

Julie earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Bowling Green State University and a professional certification from Old Dominion University, education she put to use in her career as a regional reference lab medical technologist in blood banking and her additional involvement in writing abstracts and other material for related professional journals. In her career she was a strident advocate for laboratory quality control and adherence to standards and procedures in furtherance of patient safety, topics she lectured on in seminar.

Julie was married to Dr. Richard Jobson Wherry from 1970 until his death in 1978. From that union were three children, Steven Snyder Wherry (Ashley), Brian Daniel Wherry (Mary Beth), and Kevin Charles Wherry (Melissa). Julie was also unusually blessed to have close relationships with Richard Scott Wherry (Lydia) who she considered as a son and wonderful Jeanne Thrower who always put family first.

Julie is survived by two grandchildren, Liam Jobson Wherry and Riley Grace Wherry and several nieces and nephews: David Snyder, James Snyder, Kristy (Wherry) Atkins, Jill (Wherry) Akins, Todd Huth, and Taryn (Huth) Burkhart.

In retirement, Julie was enthusiastic about tracing her and her friends' genealogical roots, skills she put into strong use as an active organizer of CFHS Class of '61 reunions. Julie enjoyed being outside and happily devoted most of her time to gardening in her yard. She was also a life-long animal lover, and her family asks that friends interested in remembering Julie consider a gift to the Humane Society of Summit County (www.summithumane.org).

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44221. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home and Crematory, 330-928-2147.
