CUYAHOGA FALLS - Meredythe Jean Arthur, 94, passed away February 5, 2018. She was born October 27, 1923 in Kenmore, OH to Glenn and Vera Anderson and was a 1941 graduate of Kenmore High School. After high school Meredythe worked for Polsky's and Firestone. She and her late husband, Wilfred Arthur, were married July 29, 1945, a marriage that lasted nearly sixty-four years.
They moved to Cuyahoga Falls shortly after World War II and lived there until his death in July 2009. When Wilfred died, a big part of Meredythe died too. They were long-time members of the First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls. Over the years, Meredythe volunteered her time for many activities in the church. One of her favorite activities was taking care of the children of the children she had cared for years before, and in a few cases, their grandchildren. She was past member of the Garden Forum of Greater Akron and Akron Summit County Federation of Women's Club.
Although she and her husband never had children, they were very close to their nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews, as well. So much so, that she and Wilfred were like a third set of grandparents to some of their relatives, children. She was Aunt Meredythe to 3 generations of her family.
Preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred; brothers, Harold and Roger Anderson and sister, Martha Jane Walker; she is survived by nieces and nephews, Sharon (Bill) Crook, of Corbin, KY, Jane (Robert) Hiner of Ravenna, John (Alice) Walker, of Stow, Judith (Marc) Ullom, of Collegeville, PA, MaryAnn (Leroy) Truby, Louisville, OH, Miriam (Edwin) Schadle of Cuyahoga Falls and Donna (Jack) Delk of New Kensington, PA; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews and their children.
Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 AM with a funeral service beginning at 11 AM on Saturday February 10, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church 245 Portage Trail Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221. Rev. Katie Osier will be officiating. Interment Northlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other remembrances memorials may be made to the church. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 330-928-2147.
