Listen to Obituary

Christopher “Chris” Whitis of Cuyahoga Falls passed away on November 7, 2025. Chris was born December 26,1956 to Betty June and Edward William Whitis. Chris spent most of his life in Cuyahoga Falls, where he built a lifetime of friendships and memories.

Chris enjoyed a lively childhood filled with go-karts, minibikes, and his paper route adventures. He graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School where he was part of the automotive mechanics program – a passion that shaped the rest of his life.

From a young age Chris was drawn to cars, working at local automotive shops long before having his driver’s license. His career in the automotive industry spanned decades, including over 20 years as Service Director at Klaben Auto. He earned Master Mechanic status and was known for his skill, persistence, and diagnostic expertise. The tougher the challenge, the more determined Chris became. When others couldn’t find the problem, Chris could - and did.

Chris later founded CP Automotive LLC, which he owned and operated for 30 years. His reputation for honesty, integrity, and exceptional workmanship earned him loyal customers and lifelong friends. He was known for his generosity – often undercharging for his work with a grin (or stern look) and the familiar phrase, “It’s okay, I know the owner.”

While cars were his passion, helping others brought him joy. His network of friends and colleagues stretched far and wide, and his impact will be felt for many years to come. Those who know Chris best knew that beneath his sometimes “crusty” exterior was a soft heart of gold. He might have had a gruff word or two at the ready, but his kindness and willingness to help spoke louder than anything else.

Chris was also a devoted collector with an eye for the unique. He loved restoring and collecting classic cars, as well as brass lamps, clocks and other distinctive treasures. For Chris, the thrill was in the hunt – tracking down rare parts, uncovering hidden gems, and sharing his finds with anyone who shared his enthusiasm for all things mechanical and nostalgic.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Jacqueline Stanley and Melva Pointer. He is survived by brothers Paul and Linds Sims, and Ed Whitis; nieces and nephews Edward, Amy, Paul, Rebecca, Sean, Jacqueline, and Bill; and his great-nieces and great-nephews .

Christopher will be deeply missed by his beloved girlfriend Leanne Brady, and the Brady, LaJudice, and Villers families. He leaves behind countless friends and customers who became family.

Chris’s legacy of kindness, craftsmanship, humor, and heart will live on in every life he touched and every engine he brought back to life.

Calling hours will be held on Friday November 14, 2025 from 10:00 – 11:00 am followed by a funeral service at Clifford Shoemaker Funeral home in Cuyahoga Falls with a graveside service to follow.
