David Monegan

David Lee Monegan, 70, of Brimfield, Ohio, passed away on May 6, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at UH Cleveland Medical Center. Born February 10, 1953, in Richfield, to Donna (née Valvoda) and Lee Monegan, David is survived by his wife of 50 years Susan (née McDonald); children Tracy Monegan Rice (Kennon), Daniel Monegan (Meagan), and Tiffany DiGirolamo (Mark); grandchildren Holden, Taylor, Rowan, Riley, Sawyer, and Mila; and ‘second’ son and close family friend Troy Lewandowski. Also surviving are his two brothers, Michael and Larry Monegan.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Kay Janis.

David successfully owned and operated his automotive repair business in Stow for over 40 years, sometimes serving multiple generations of client families. A master woodworker in his spare time, he crafted custom furniture for all of his children and grandchildren, pieces that have become family heirlooms. There was nothing that Gramps couldn’t build or fix.

He loved the outdoors, spending time with family and friends camping, off-roading in his UTV in the mountains of Pennsylvania or West Virginia, snorkeling on a tropical reef, racing hare scrambles on his off-road motorcycles, and maintaining his lawn and landscape. David loved to travel, especially to warm, sunny beaches. Other passions included NASCAR, his cat Sig, watching his grandchildren’s sporting events, John Deere, trips to Hartville Hardware, and tinkering.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests family and friends honor David’s life by thinking of your favorite memories of him while watching a car race, walking along a beach, petting a cat, or by making a donation to St. Jude’s.

There will be a casual Celebration of Life for David on Friday, June 23 from 4 – 8 PM at Wingfoot Lake State Park, Dogwood Shelter. Online condolences may be made at www.cliffordshoemaker.com.
