Dr. Harry Shullo, 89, passed away on September 19, 2021. He was born in Akron, the youngest son of the late Harry and Mary Shullo. Dr. Shullo lived in the Akron area all his life and currently resided in Silver Lake. Dr. Shullo lost his sight as a teenager, in an era where opportunities for a blind person did not exist as they do today. He insisted on creating a normal life for himself. Dr. Shullo graduated from Akron North High School. He then went on to graduate with honors from Great Lakes College, earning degrees in Mechanotherapy and Chiropractic medicine. Dr. Shullo relieved many people of their pain over his more than 50 years in practice. In addition, Dr. Shullo was an entrepreneur, owning his own donut and bakery business for many years. Over the years, Dr. Shullo was also a member of many business and social organizations including North Akron Board of Trade, Lions Club, The Italian Center, Akron Blind Center and St. Anthony’s church.
After losing his sight, Dr. Shullo learned to dance as a way to improve his balance. He developed a passion and won several awards for his ballroom dancing. It was on the dance floor that he met his wife, Alexandria, who he was married to for 56 wonderful years.
Dr. Shullo’s determination and perseverance allowed him to overcome many obstacles. These qualities and his giving and kind nature are what all who knew him admire most. Our love for him is eternal and lives on forever.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Alexandria, his sister, Delphina Iemma and brothers, George and Bernard. He is survived by his children, Liz Charlesworth and Harrison Shullo, special nieces and nephews, Joe Iemma, Mike Iemma, Tina Ruggiero, Aliea Judeh, Leila Judeh and Joe Mack.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 1.
