Elizabeth Wurst

Elizabeth Wurst passed away April 2,2023. She was born April 18, 1924, in La Grange, GA, daughter of Milton and Blonde Strickland.

She graduated from LaGrange College where she was a member of Delta Phi Delta Sorority and May Court. She sang in the college sextet. She worked for the U. S. Treasury in Atlanta after graduation, and later she married Fred Wurst, Sr., who preceded her in death after 50 years of marriage. She lived in Houston for 14 years, was president of Petite Jardin Garden Club, member of the Bridge Club and Willow Meadows Baptist Church, Member of Cuyahoga Falls Women’s Club and Kappa Iota Teacher’s Sorority.

She began her teaching career of 22 years when the family moved to Cuyahoga Falls and was nominated for a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar Award for “excellence in teaching.”

She loved politics, reading, gardening, playing bridge, visiting with family and enjoyed teaching.

After retirement, she was presiding judge in her precinct for 14 years.

She was a devoted, dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Preceded in death by son, Henry Wurst, and 7 brothers and sisters; she is survived by son Fred, Jr. and Nancy Wurst; granddaughter, Ashley (Michael) Barba and two great granddaughters that were the light of her life, Emmaline and Kendall; brother, Jack Strickland; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Monday April 10, 2023 from 10am to 11am at the Clifford Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front Street, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221. The funeral service will be immediately following the visitation at 11am, also at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
