CUYAHOGA FALLS – Frank K. Zimmer, 89, born July 11, 1929 passed away peacefully December 5, 2018. He was born and raised in South Akron before moving to Cuyahoga Falls where he resided the better part of his life. Frank attended Allen, Lincoln and South High Schools going on to serve his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.

He developed a strong work ethic at the early age of 10 shining shoes in downtown Akron. He worked as a car salesman most of his adult life developing many lifelong friends along the way.  Frank and his brother-in-law, Robert Foutty II eventually co-owned Zimmer Ford in West Salem, OH. After his retirement from the car business, he worked with his nephew, Robert Foutty III at New Horizons Financial Group in North Canton.

Frank was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. He played Bantam football with the South Akron Rangers. Frank began boxing at the age of 14 becoming a Golden Gloves Champion. Frank was one of the first members of the Akron Boxers Hall of Fame.

He was a very social person who never met a stranger and always stayed connected to his roots. Frank and four of his childhood friends started an annual golf tournament “The Corner Open” (South & Princeton). The tournament grew in size and lasted for decades drawing participants from across the country back to the neighborhood.

He and lifelong friends met for breakfast weekly for over 40 years. The group was tagged as the ROMEO’s (Real Old Men Eating Out).

Preceded in death by his father, John Zimmer, mother, Elizabeth Tell, stepfather, Andrew Tell, wife, Joan Zimmer and sister, Frances Stutler. He is survived by his brothers, Peter Zimmer (Anita), Andrew Tell John Tell and Carl Tell; sister, Dorothy Neitz; daughter, Judith Zimmer-Leisenring (Budd) and namesake nephew, Frank Zimmer (Peggy).

His nieces and nephews were all very special to him. Family members and friends will always remember his love and knowledge of all sports and Christmas Eve at the Zimmer’s.

A memorial celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Services entrusted to Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home and Crematory, 330-928-2147.
