Geraldine Czetli

CUYAHOGA FALLS - Geraldine H. Czetli, 97, passed away March 4, 2018. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, September 20, 1920, to George and Eithel Halbritter. She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Emil S. Czetli; her son, Dennis M. Czetli; and survived by her daughter, Linda Evans and her husband, Gregory McAllister of Portland, Oregon, and her son, Eric M. Czetli and his wife, Marlene of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren, Brian Evans and his wife, Jill Leary, Eric S. Czetli, Aaron Czetli, and Alison VanRaaphorst and her husband, Michael; great-grandchildren, Lachlan Leary Evans, Amber Scheumann and her husband, Kyle, Dylan, Darian, Eric and Dominick Czetli, and Michael, Caroline and Grant VanRaaphorst.
She graduated from Ohio University in 1942, with highest honors and a BA degree in English, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Kappa Delta Pi. During WWII, she worked at BandW in Barberton as a draftswoman. In 1943, she married Emil Czetli and lived in Cuyahoga Falls from 1947 until her death. During that time, she worked as a librarian in Taylor Memorial and Stow-Munroe Falls libraries until her retirement.
She was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ, Cuyahoga Falls, Senior Strollers, AARP #455 and numerous book discussion groups. Despite deteriorating eyesight, she remained an avid reader and staunchly resisted any attempts to woo her from the printed page to electronic media. As an intelligent, competent woman raised in an age that did not reverence these values, she remained bravely independent until near the end of her life, and then graciously accepted the loving help of her family. Special thanks to her daily caregivers, Marlene, Karron, Kathleen and Cynthia.
Friends may call from 4-7 PM on Friday March 9, 2018 in the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, where a funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday March 10.
