Gretchen E. Hazle

Gretchen E. Hazle, born February 4, 1952, to Edward and Iva Hazle of Cuyahoga Falls Ohio, passed away peacefully April 7, 2022.

She graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High, attended Kent State University for 2 years and graduated from St. Thomas School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She worked in various departments at St. Thomas Hospital leaving there as the Night Supervisor of Nursing. The next few years she traveled the country along with a business partner consulting with nursing homes that needed to be brought back up to regulatory standards as well as working with attorneys on various neglect cases in the nursing home industry. She was a strong advocate for patient care and rights.

The last 19 years of her career she owned and operated Haven Homes of Stow, a 16-bed assisted living in Stow Ohio. She retired in 2018.

Gretch was a funny, witty and big-hearted person. She excelled at golf, bowling, and went fishing with her family from when she was a child. For the last 17 years until the pandemic, she flew into a fishing camp in northern Ontario at Kaby Lake where she loved the fishing, the wilderness and nature. The flowers around her house were gorgeous. Her signature sign off was always “Love ya, Bye."

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Kathie and John Crabtree. Also surviving are cousins Connie and Gerry Hagen, Jim and Brenda Devine, and Ron and Sandy Devine as well as special friends Pattie and Dan Bacik and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hazle/Devine Scholarship Fund at Bethany United Church of Christ, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

A private graveside service was held at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park.  A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Grandview United Methodist Church, 2315 Phelps Ave., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223.
