James M. Hamill

Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio - James M. Hamill, 71, passed away in the early morning hours on May 25, 2022 following a long illness.

Jim was born in Akron, Ohio on January 18, 1951 and was so fortunate to be adopted by Jim and Donna Hamill.  He grew up in Silver Lake, along with his sister Christy.  He met life-long pal Joe in fifth grade at Silver Lake Elementary School.  The two spent the next 60 years having fun and causing trouble.

Following his graduation from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1969 Jim headed to Boulder, where he attended the University of Colorado.  He studied English Lit and Psychology and learned many life lessons.  Looking back on his college years, Jim was happiest and most grateful for the friendships he developed.  Bill, Henry, Ginny, Sarah and Peter were in his heart until the end and some of his most treasured memories were of them and the times they were together.

Jim married Lee in 1979 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, where they both are members.  They were happily together for 42 years.  They went skiing, kept a boat at Lake Erie for a few years, vacationed often, played lots of golf.  Jim took great pride in his yard.  He was a “grillmaster” for sure.  He loved to fish and to sail.  He was a Cleveland Indians season ticket holder for 20 years.  Jim was always up for an adventure and he roped best buddies Bill and Alane into quite a few of them.

Jim was the owner/operator of Jim’s Tech Supply for 38 years.  His territory covered parts of Summit, Portage and Geauga Counties.  He sold tire repair products and trained people on how to use them.  He worked hard; his customers became his friends.  He retired in 2014.

Jim was a member of the Cuyahoga Falls Lions Club for more than 25 years.  He was honored to be named a Melvin Jones Fellow for his contributions to the club and the community.

Jim never had children of his own, but he was the beloved uncle to many.  He freely offered advice and help, whether requested or not.  He celebrated accomplishments.  He offered support in times of sadness and trouble.  He dearly loved Ashlie (Leif), Aubrie (Rob), Steve (Ula), Liz (Tim), Molly (Patrick), Louie, Jack, Grace, Matt and Shaquille.

Jims last months were difficult due to his health issues.  He was grateful to Lakia and Marge for their care and kindness and to Bethany who worked hard to keep him strong.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Donna Hamill, and by his annoying but loving cat Scarlett.  He is survived by his wife, Lee, by his sister Christy Hamill (Bob Cady), by his sister-in-law Linda (Mike) Miller and by many, many dear friends.  He had a happy life, he was loved and he will be greatly missed.
