John D. Barnes, 73, of Akron, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 22, 2026.
There wasn’t a person or a song John didn’t know. Born on January 17, 1953, to Jack and Lillian Barnes, John grew up on Johnson Avenue in Cuyahoga Falls, a place he always spoke of as the very best street to grow up on.
In high school, John met the love of his life, Jean. What began as young love became 47 years of marriage filled with family, great friends, music, unwavering love, and a lifetime of memories. Together they built a life centered around family, joy, and togetherness.
John was a devoted father to his two daughters, Italia and Alaina, whom he loved beyond measure. He never missed a ball game, a summer afternoon by the backyard pool, taking them to pick out candy at Mr. Bulky’s or the opportunity to take his girls to a concert. Some of their greatest memories were made beside him, with music playing in the background.
As much as John cherished being a father, becoming a grandfather brought him a new kind of joy. His grandson Gabriel was his pride and his best friend, and there was nothing that made John happier than watching him grow.
John’s love extended far beyond his immediate family. He was deeply loved by his extended family, lifelong friends, and everyone fortunate enough to know him. To many, he was simply “the music man.” Music was the language of his life — always playing, always sharing, always connecting people together. Every memory of John seems to carry a melody, and through those songs, his spirit will live on.
May everyone remember John through music.
John is survived by his loving wife, Jean Barnes (Tempero); daughters, Italia Barnes and Alaina Barnes; beloved grandson, Gabriel Barnes, sister, Marie Rohner (Matthew) and numerous nieces and nephews who John was like a farther and grandfather to.
