John T. Hagy, Jr. “AA8QV”, age 72, of Cuyahoga Falls, passed away unexpectedly May 25, 2022, at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was attending the Dayton Hamvention, a celebration of amateur radio and a delight for him each year.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late John T. and Anne Fair Hagy. He was preceded in death by his two younger brothers James and Douglas Hagy. He graduated from Ohio University, School of Journalism, in 1972. John was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He was a consummate road warrior as a salesman for welding and robotics manufacturing companies, ending his career with retirement from Lincoln Electric Company.
He is survived by his wife and walking partner of nearly 50 years, Anne B. Hagy; his daughters Jessica (Tyrel Beutler), of Seattle, Washington; Elizabeth (Nick) Popovich, of San Francisco, California; dearly loved grandsons Edgar and Oscar Popovich and Calvin Beutler; sister-in-law Mary “Kitty” Hagy, of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Sylvia (Roger) Strickland, of Knoxville, Tennessee; brother-in-law Chris Barnhart, of Latrobe, Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
John enjoyed simple pleasures and good humor. He paid sharp attention to grammar and was fluent in German. John was never without a pen in his buttoned-down shirt pocket. For over 25 years he was an usher at St. Eugene’s Catholic Church. John was an active member at the Cuyahoga Falls Natatorium, the American Welding Society, and the Pioneer Amateur Radio Club. He worked as a voting election official. Also served as a board member of the Friends of the Taylor Memorial Library. He was happy to be a member by marriage of the Engelman greenhouse gang. John was a frequent blood donor and in death gave the gift of organs and tissue.
Where there is an organ donor, life springs from death.
Go for a walk.
There will be memorial calling hours from 4pm to 6pm on Friday June 3, 2022 at the Clifford Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front Street, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221.
