It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Karen Ann Johnson on June 9, 2026.
Karen was born on March 11, 1947, to Kenneth and Inez Lyell. She grew up in Cuyahoga Falls and spent her entire life there. It was in Cuyahoga Falls that she met the love of her life, Lewis Johnson, whom she often referred to as her hero. They married and built a life together in the community they both loved.
Karen was a devoted wife and homemaker who found great joy in raising her three children on 8th Street. She loved painting, taking long walks, and spending time with her grandchildren, whom she cherished above all else. Karen also enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and their beloved Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she and Lewis owned a condominium for more than 20 years.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Inez Lyell.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Lewis Johnson; her children, Michael (Chung-Ying “Owen” Tsai) Johnson, Lisa Sondles, and Natalie (Craig) Bierer; and her beloved grandchildren, Cassandra Sondles, Audrey Sondles, Phillip Bierer, Lauren Bierer, and Dani Byun-Johnson.
She is also survived by her brothers, Jerry (Lynn) Lyell, Gary (Linda) Lyell, Denny (Kathy) Lyell, and Doug (Darlene) Lyell; as well as her special niece, Jennifer (Todd) McCartney.
Karen's children are deeply grateful for their father's selfless and unwavering care during her illness. He never left her side. He truly was her hero—and ours.
We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Linda, Dawn, Tammy, and Jeanette for their compassion, care, and support throughout this journey.
Mom, we release you into the loving arms of our Lord. Rest peacefully. We will miss you always and carry your love with us forever.
In accordance with Karen's wishes, a small private family burial service will be held at a later date.
