Lewis Baird

Lewis (Lew, Lewie) Baird, 86, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at his home surrounded by family. Lew was born May 24, 1934 to Florence and Clarence Baird. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gene. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy; daughter, Lisa (John); daughter, Lori (Doug); son, Dave (Lori); grandchildren, Courtney (Justin), Kalee (Scott), Shane (Kaitlyn), Kyle (Abby), Kristen (Anthony), Jason, Ashley, and seven great grandsons.

Lew was a mechanic his whole life. He was proud of so many things he accomplished over the years. He worked on the Goodyear blimp and loved when it would fly overhead. He went to Kent State after many years of working at McMillen Tire to get certified to teach auto mechanics. He then went on to teach auto mechanics at Hudson and Solon schools. He retired as a mechanic from the United States Post Office. After retirement he enjoyed shuttling customers for Lambert and driving for Enterprise.

Lew was a lifelong member of the United Methodist church. He raced stock cars when he was younger. He was an avid golfer and achieved getting a hole-in-one. He also enjoyed fishing and trying to teach it to his grandkids. In his later years he enjoyed building and flying remote control airplanes. He also loved going for walks around the block, neighborhood, or mall, but his favorite was hiking all the Metropark trails. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing horserace, gardening, and telling old stories. He was ornery, kind-hearted, easygoing and very thankful for everything done for him, and was cherished by his whole family.

There will be a private service for immediate family at Clifford Shoemaker on Sunday December 20, 2020 and he will be laid to rest Monday at Northlawn Memorial  Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice or The Alzheimer’s Association.
