Mary Asente

Mary C. (Lentini) Asente, age 96, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2021, surrounded by loving family. She was a resident at Continuing Healthcare of Cuyahoga Falls nursing home. The family would like to thank the staff there for caring for our mother. Special thanks also to Crossroads Hospice for their loving care and concern.

Mary was born in Johnstown, PA to the late Angeline and John Lentini. After her family moved to Akron, Mary worked at Goodyear Aircraft during WWII, and was very proud of her work as a "Rosie the Riveter". She obtained her cosmetology license and owned her own beauty shop in downtown Akron, called The Hollywood Beauty Shop, where she worked until she left to raise her family. She then worked as office manager at Ange's Tile & Flooring in Copley, and as store manager at Motherhood Maternity at Rolling Acres Mall, before retiring to enjoy time at home with her husband.

Mary was a long-time member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Akron. She also served as president of the Sicilian Ladies' Auxiliary for several years.

Mary was talented in many ways. She played the clarinet and the piano; she was a wonderful baker and hosted holiday parties and Sunday dinners for as long as any of us can remember. She was also a gifted artist, both drawing and painting, a wonderful seamstress, and an avid reader.

Along with her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Mike Asente. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Josephine Venet, Connie Papes, and John Lentini, and by her grandson, Steven Bowersox, and great-granddaughter, Lily Asente. Left to grieve Mary's passing are her four children, Charles (Lynn) Asente, John (Marsha) Asente, Angela "Honey" Bertka, and Tina (Tom) Deighan; grandchildren, Chrystan (Jason) Richardson, Michael (Tiffany) Asente, Amanda (Michael) Mormino, Matthew (Jennifer) Asente, Justin Bowersox, Sarah (Ryan) Gosorn, Nicholas Bertka, Christopher Bertka, and Ashley (Carla Flores) Deighan. Mary will also be missed by her 13 great-grandchildren and members of her large and close-knit family.

Friends may call from 4-7 PM Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 23. Entombment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of other remembrances, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
