Matilda Steen

CUYAHOGA FALLS – Matilda “Tillie” Steen, 94, passed away July 11, 2018. She was born in Aliquippa, PA and resided in Cuyahoga Falls for the past 59 years.

At 19 years old, Tillie traveled to Akron to work as a riveter on the Navy Corsair at Goodyear. She later worked as a riveter on war planes in Long Beach, CA. While working at Goodyear,

Tillie met her future husband, Bill a Marine stationed at the plant. She enjoyed dancing, music and gardening.

Preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Matilda Skrlac; husband, William Steen; sisters, Ann Kostial and Caroline Merulli; brothers, baby Harry Skrlac, John Skrlac, Rudy Skrlac and Pete Bartoles; she is survived by her sons, William (Belinda Olivo), Robert (Denise) and Joseph; grandchildren, Nicole Tessmer, Raymond, Stacy and Jason Steen and Samantha Duffy; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Carl Bartoles; and sister, Mary Skrlac; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5:30-8:30 PM on Tuesday July 17, 2018 and from 9:30-10:30 AM on Wednesday July 18 at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday July 18 at St. Joseph Catholic Church 1761 2nd St. Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221. Interment Hillside Memorial Park.
