PlSgt. Harold Morton Weaver

Harold Morton Weaver, Platoon Sergeant with the United States Marine Corps, was killed in action on May 4, 1945, during the Battle of Okinawa, one of the final campaigns of World War II. After 80 years, PlSgt. Weaver is coming home to be laid to rest with his family.

Harold was born on September 4, 1917 in Cuyahoga Falls, son of the late Lewis and Marie (nee Patterson) Weaver, and beloved brother of the late Paul, Margaret, Jessie, and Benjamin. He was a graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School and went on to attend classes at Kent State University while also working at B.F. Goodrich. On December 29, 1941, at the age of 24, Harold enlisted in the USMC.

He was first deployed overseas and fought in the battle of Guadalcanal until a bout of malaria brought him back to the US in 1943. Weaver was then assign to the 25th Marines as a Corporal in Mike Company and then later reassigned to the 3/7th First Marine Division going on to fight at Peleliu until wounded by shrapnel. His family fondly remembers that Harold was sent home following his injuries to be cared for by his mother. Following his recovery, he returned to the company as a Platoon Sergeant before landing in Okinawa. On May 4, 1945 while holding a reserve position near the village of Iso, the Japanese military launched a massive attack that killed at least fifteen men within the company. On this day, PlSgt. Weaver was reported as "killed in action, details not known." In 2016, while land was being cleared in Okinawa, human remains were discovered. In 2023, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) was able to positively identify those of PlSgt. Harold Weaver.

Please join us as we honor the life and sacrifice Harold made for this country as he is laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery, 2420 Oakwood Dr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221 on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 11:00 am with full military honors.  Please enter the cemetery using the main entrance on Oakwood Dr. and follow the arrow signs around to the Military section for the ceremony.  Guests are also welcome to park in the city lot across the street accessible from Fourth St. and Oakwood Dr. and walk over to the cemetery if able.  Following the ceremony, Harold will be laid to rest privately in the family plot.

Harold Morton Weaver gave his life in service to his country and is remembered with honor and gratitude.
