Ruth Ann Hunt (nee Infield) passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025 at the age of 88 following a sudden illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. Ruth was a wonderful and loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother (or “Gigi” as her greats called her).
Ruth was born on April 1, 1937, in Akron, Ohio. After moving to Silver Lake, she graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1955 and attended Lake Erie College and Kent State University. Ruthie (as her husband Bill called her) married her playmate from kindergarten and high school sweetheart in 1958. They were married for 64 ½ years before Bill passed in 2022. Together they raised 3 children (in Cuyahoga Falls and Bath, returning to Silver Lake in 1980) who blessed them with 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Ruth was so proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, spoke of them often, loved visiting them and figured out Facetime so she could "see" them. She also had a special place in her heart for her “grand dogs”.
Music was very important in Ruth’s life, and she was an amazing soloist. She performed for weddings, church choral groups, and funerals (though not many as she wasn’t fond of those). She was a long-standing member of the Tuesday Musical Club and St. Cecilia Choral Society. Ruth volunteered for Akron City Hospital for over 25 years and served as President of the Women’s Auxiliary Board and their annual Rummage Sale.
Ruth was also a brilliant card player. Over the years she played many a hand of bridge, loved her “west side” bridge group, enjoyed gin rummy and euchre with Bill and, much to the chagrin of her children, felt no family vacation would be complete without evening card games. Ruth and Bill were also active members of Silver Lake Country Club where they cherished over 50 years of friendships, many from the hours they spent on the golf course. They loved to travel together - on golf trips, cruises, to tropical islands and across Europe.
There was no greater love than the love Ruth and Bill had for each other. They laughed often, loved fully, had friendships dating back to grade school and we, as their children, are forever grateful for the example they set.
Preceded in death by her husband William Hunt, parents Harold and Isabelle Infield and sister Jane Infield, she leaves to mourn son David Hunt of Kent, Ohio; daughters Diane Hoelzel (Robert) of Hudson, Ohio and Debra Harrison (Bradley) of Potomac Falls, Virginia; grandchildren Jonathan Hoelzel (Emily), Andrew Hoelzel (Peyton Dean), Daniel Hunt, Jessica Hunt, Emma Hunt, Tyler Harrison, Justin Harrison, and Dylan Harrison; and 3 great-grandchildren. Also to mourn her passing are her sister and brother-in-law Kay and David Hansford of Kent, Ohio, and three cherished nieces and their families.
Per her wishes, Ruth has been cremated and there will be no calling hours or service. A private family service will be held at a later date and her final resting place will be at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park in Cuyahoga Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Haven of Rest Ministries, Akron, Ohio, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of choice.
