Rye is survived and greatly missed by his three children, Khaleb, Rye, Ayla and their mother Nicole. Rye's mother Carol Greving and her husband Frank will cherish all of the memories she has of him in his 45 years. Rye's two siblings, Robyn and Jason, will forever miss RJ and his everlasting charisma. His siblings' children, Joseph, Liam, Daithi, Stassi and Marlo will miss him deeply and cherish all the memories of August 2024. Rye will be missed by his mother's siblings Tom, Denny, Linda, Joanie and Brian and their spouses. He will also be missed by his many cousins from his mother's side. Rye was predeceased by his father, Rye Joseph Sr and his Uncle Craig.
His memory lives on with Karen and John McQuaid, John, Grandma Helen Mary Shuman, Uncle Larry and his two nieces Reece and Emily. The McQuaids were always a second family to Rye and were always so welcoming to his siblings and their families. Rye always enjoyed the large family gatherings and the hobo pies.
Rye was born in Omaha, Nebraska and lived there until the age of 11. He moved with his family to Danville, Illinois where he started his love of baseball and collecting baseball cards and comic books. He even tried cross country and basketball for short time here too. He then moved with his family to El Paso, Texas where he started to learn the skill of skateboarding. The family then moved to Massillon, Ohio where Rye attended Jackson High school. He made many lifelong friendships here. He left for a short time, but Ohio called him back and he met Nicole. They eventually settled in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and he remained there for the rest of his life. They spent time building up their snowboarding skills at various places with their favorite place being Breckinridge, Colorado. Rye and Nicole went on to have three beautiful children. His greatest joy came from spending time with each of them. Some of his most cherished memories include RJ coaching his sons' baseball teams, going to Khaleb's wrestling matches and spending quality time with Ayla, his little peanut.
Rye had many professions in his life from being a manager at Amazon Trail, a landscaper at ABC Landscaping and then finally, a key managerial role at Allstate insurance. Rye always talked about enjoying 'the grind' and had an amazing work ethic. He excelled at every position he held and worked his way up with ease. After he left Allstate, he spent a great deal of time sharing one of his most beloved past times with his children gathering collectibles and doing online shows with them. This was always was a very special bonding time. It included wheeling and dealing with customers and of course The Grateful Dead was always playing in the background.
Rye thoroughly enjoyed all things Ohio including the Browns, the Cavs and the Indians. Jason will miss sharing the many triumphs and upsets with RJ watching these three teams. Rye also enjoyed being outdoors when he was hiking and fishing with his family. He had many dogs in his life which he loved deeply. RJ always enjoyed new adventures and travelling to see his big sis in Northern Ireland. He appreciated the history of the island especially the castles, old pubs and amazing golf courses.
More than anything, RJ loved getting all of his family together and sitting back to enjoy the chat with good food. Very cherished times. Even though his sister was so far away he was always available to her via phone and continued to be a significant support to her during difficult times. True friendship knows no distance. Robo will miss him desperately.
His legacy will carry on forever.
