Listen to Obituary

William Paul Schweikert, age 81, of Stow, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026. He was born on August 17, 1944, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, to the late Paul and Ernestine Schweikert.

William proudly served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant (E-5), with service at Fort Knox, Tennessee; Fort Sill, Oklahoma; and in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Following his military service, he continued his education through U.S. Army training programs, coursework at The University of Akron, and Ohio Bell systems training.

He dedicated 25 years of his career to Ohio Bell, Ameritech, and AT&T in Building Operations. Earlier in life, he worked at Acme stores during and after high school.

William found his greatest joy in time spent with his family. He especially cherished fishing vacations in Canada, relaxing at his cottage at Clendening Lake, and restoring vintage cars—most notably his beloved 1938 Ford Coupe. He never met a stranger and always had a story to share, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; son, Richard of Akron and his children, Rianna, Nathan, and Thomas of Canton; daughter, Kerry Russo and her husband, Daniel, and their sons, Will and Tony of Stow; sister, Sue Harman and her husband, David, of Clinton; niece, Amanda of New Albany; as well as several cousins and many dear friends.

William was preceded in death by his father, Paul, and his mother, Ernestine Schweikert.

Known affectionately as “Skip,” he most adored time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a loyal friend and a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather, and his warmth and storytelling spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In keeping with William’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held. His presence will be deeply missed, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
